Curbside Pickup

Have you ever wondered if there is recycling in your community? Or about what really happens to your recycling after you put it in the blue box or drop it off at your recycling centre?  You've come to the right place to find out!

Did you know...?

It takes one million years for a glass bottle to break down in a landfill?5 It is important to recycle to reduce the amount of waste that is reaching the landfill and to save energy that would be used to make brand new products.

Household Recycling

Remember that ‘recycle’ is the third R.  Reducing the amount of material you purchase and discard and Reusing products as much as you can are more effective in reducing the amount of waste we must manage.  However, Recycling is a great alternative to a landfill, and turns what would be trash into valuable resources.

By buying recycled products or things with recycled content, you are closing the loop.

Each month Republic Waste sponsors the RecycleNOW receptacles for the recycling of materials, such as glass, tin, aluminum and newspapers, at five sites throughout the County. These bins give residents, without access to curbside recycling, an opportunity to divert a portion of their waste from being sent to the landfill.

RecycleNOW bins are located at the following locations on the designated days:

Kroger – 571 East Monroe St., Dundee – 1st Tuesday of the month

St. Joseph Church – 2238 Manhattan Rd., Erie – 2nd Tuesday of the month

Meijer 1700 North Telegraph Rd., Monroe – 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Wednesday of the month

Monroe Food Town – 211 North Telegraph Rd. - 2nd Saturday of the month

Lambertville Kroger – 3462 W. Sterns Rd. – 1st and 4th Saturday of the month

If you don't live in one of these communities, ask your current waste service provider to add curbside recycling to your subscription service.

The following items can be recycled at the RecycleNOW locations: types 1 and 2 plastic, glass, aluminum, tin and newspaper (Saturday only) and license plates. These sites only accept containers that held food, beverages, detergent or bleach.  Please note that these sites will not be open if the normal collection days occurs on any of the following Holidays: New Year's Eve or New Year's Day, July 4th, Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.

If you live in one of the following communities, curbside recycling is available through your municipality.  Contact your municipal office for a bin and additional information.

- City of Monroe

- Frenchtown Township

- City of Luna Pier

It is quite simple to recycle.  Just put your recycling bin at the curb on the designated day and it will be collected and taken to a materials recovery facility (MRF).
